10 Most Important Comic Book Moments Of The Decade

3. The New 52

Joker Death Of The Family
DC Comics / Jim Lee

By October 2010, the head honchoes of DC Comics had grown increasingly concerned by a noticeable downward spiral in regards to their sales. Getting their heads together, they decided the best way to correct course was to simply ctrl-alt-delete. Ending every last one of their comics via the divisive Flashpoint event, everything began anew with issue ones (though certain properties such as Batman and Green Lantern continued on as normal for the most part).

One of the characters to undergo the most change in the New 52 was the original face of DC himself, Superman. The affable, All American Kryptonian was replaced with a younger, much meaner version that continued the divide amongst fans regarding the company wide reboot.

The logic was to drum up interest in older readers whilst establishing connections with new ones who would hopefully find the stories more accessible if they went back to the beginning. While many good ideas floated throughout this time, the New 52 has ultimately come to be viewed as a bit of a hot mess by many despite its game changing effects on DC Comics as a whole.

John Cunningham hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
