10 Most Insane Alternate Universe Batmen

6. Retired Batman

Batman Grim Reaper
DC Comics

In Kingdom Come, the Batman of Earth-22 was allowed to age. He came as close to retirement as conceivable for the superhero driven by justice. Batman continued to keep watch over Gotham, but he was reliant on technology to pick up much of the slack.

Bruce Wayne’s worn-down body became reliant on an exo-suit, which protected and controlled from the neck down. It was also equipped with laser beams and flight facilities allowing the aged Batman to still enter combat when required.

As well as his ailing body, Wayne was disenfranchised with the newer superheroes who relied on violent and impulsive behaviour to fight crime.

After his secret identity was exposed, and Wayne Manor consequently destroyed, Bruce was forced to retreat to the Batcave, his new permanent home. Here he discarded Bruce Wayne and became Batman full-time.

From the Batcave, he led a robotic army which patrolled and protected Gotham. Mass produced by Lex Luthor, there were two variations of robot: the Bat-Knight, a more traditional walking android; and Bat-Monitors, which were similar to drones. Both drew design inspiration from the Batmobile.
