10 Most Memorable Weddings in Comics History

5. Peter Parker & Mary-Jane Watson

After 20 years, the on-off relationship between Spider-Man and Mary Jane Watson finally culminated in marriage in 1986's The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #21. After much trepidation from both parties, the wedding goes ahead as planned. However, the marriage is now most famous for it's sudden cancellation in One More Day in 2007. Peter Parker makes a deal with the demon Mephisto to sacrifice his marriage in order to save his Aunt May's life. The controversial decision was fronted by Marvel's then editor-in-chief Joe Quesada because he believed that the original marriage only occurred due to pressure from Marvel's editorial team and that a large part of Peter Parker's character was being the relatable single man he'd been previously. The abrupt divorce of one of Marvel's most famous couples was met with large criticism from both fans and reviewers.
