10 Most Sexist Comic Superheroines Still Being Published Today

5. The New Starfire

Vampirella
DC Comics

Remember the old Starfire, made famous by the beloved Teen Titans cartoon? She was powerful, sure, but also kind, gentle and, yes, rather naive. She was also a fan favorite. Starfire was always a more complicated character in her appearances in DC Comics. She was more adult, too. But she was never a bland sexpot.

Until now.

In 2011, DC reinvented - needlessly - Starfire, making her a member of the Red Hood and the Outlaws comic published as part of DC's reboot, The New 52.

In her new version, Starfire sports the skimpiest of costumes and stereotypical over-sized breasts. Critics quickly pounced on the new Starfire, with Laura Hudson, editor-in-chief of ComicsAlliance, writing that Starfire is now nothing more than a wish-fulfilment sex object.
