Maxwell Lord IV had enjoyed ample influence over Justice League and the formation of Justice League International in the wake of Crisis On Infinite Earths. A wealthy and powerful businessman, Lord claimed to have learned nobility and compassion from his late father, Maxwell Lord III. All of this pointed to him as a genuine figure out to help keep Earth safe and its heroes strong.
