One thing you definitely can't say about Marvel is that they're lacking in the cosmic department. With heroes like Silver Surfer and the Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel are well stocked in that area, but it's their villains that managed to turn the most heads.

One of the cosmic evildoers in question is Annihilus, the being responsible for the infamous 'annihilation wave' that wiped out a bunch of Marvel's sci-fi properties in 2005. The threat was so great that pretty much every cosmic Marvel hero had to band together to take him down, and, considering how powerful the Surfer is alone, that's a pretty big deal.

Although he would be bested by Galactus in the end, Annihilus and his hoard initiated a murderous campaign that would last close to three years. While that might speak more to scheduling issues than any base threat level, it is true that Annihilus brought together a staggering coalition of heroes to match him.
