And, technically, the inspiration for the other-other Twilight Saga, this storyline made up a culminating angle in the Buffy Season Eight comic book series, featuring the revelation that the super-strong, invulnerable, flying Big Bad is none other than… Buffy’s ex-boyfriend, the heroic vampire champion Angel. Not Angelus, the soulless serial killer version of Angel. The real, actual good one.
Angel’s explanation for his subterfuge and why it wasn’t technically evil or a betrayal would take too long to go into, and isn’t strictly relevant here. What is relevant is what happens once Buffy finally stops trying to have a season-finale-style showdown with the love of her life, and… well. Has sex with him, instead.
If you’ve ever wondered what might happen if Superman and Supergirl were to do the greased weasel tango, then 1) urrrgh, they’re related, and 2) Brad Meltzer and Georges Jeanty have you covered, having now depicted Buffy and Angel writhing around naked in mid-air, creating sonic booms with every kiss, crashing through mountains at superspeed, and reaching terminal velocity to f**k in space. So hard, in fact, that they enter a new plane of existence.
Bet your momma didn’t do it like that.
