The Long Halloween, in my eyes, is the best Batman story to date. A detective noir story, ingeniousley chaptered into the twelve months of the year. Batman uses every trick in the book and his trusty allies: Commissioner Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, to track down the “Holiday Killer”. Just like Christoper Nolan’s masterpiece The Dark Knight which was inspired by this, The Long Halloween also sees Harvey Dent’s collapse into Two-Face.

The follow up story, Dark Victory, picks up from where the previous story left off. Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale return to force with another gangster style, Goodfellas/The Godfather esque epic. DV also witnesses the birth of Batman’s first crime fighting sidekick dick Grayson into Robin.

If you find Tim Sale’s unparalleled ability to convey Batman’s imagery and Loebs exceptional storytelling captivating, we can not recommend their predecessor book Haunted Knight highly enough.
