10 Need-To-Know Facts About The Sensational She-Hulk

5. She Isn't The Only She-Hulk

Betty Ross She Hulk
Marvel Comics

After Marvel saw how popular She-Hulk had become, they thought, "Hey! Let's do that again!" and created another gamma-radiated superheroine called Lyra in 2008.

Born in an alternative future, Lyra is the daughter of Bruce Banner and the superstrong titan, Thundra. Because she was raised in a world where men are perceived as the enemy, she had many conflicts with Bruce Banner after she was transported to the 21st century.

Unlike the other Hulks, Lyra maintains her staggering strength, not through anger but through peace. If she loses her temper, she becomes vulnerable. After Jen Walters took a break from super-heroics to focus on her law firm, Lyra became the new She-Hulk.

Readers liked Lyra so much, Marvel decided to create another She-Hulk one year later. When Bruce Banner's lover, Betty Ross, was killed in a Hulk-related conflict, MODOK and The Leader told her father, Thunderbolt Ross, they would resurrect her if he allowed them to turn him into their personal super-soldier. Thunderbolt agreed, and was transformed into the Red Hulk.

MODOK and The Leader were true to their word by reviving Betty, but failed to mention to Ross that they turned her into the Red She-Hulk for their own nefarious schemes.
