10 Perplexing Comic Book Questions Solved By The Internet

10. How Can Spider-Man Stick To Walls When He Wears Boots/Gloves?

We have a lot of questions about Peter Parker and, more specifically, his masked alter ego. Like, why does this kid who's supposedly a massive dork have women fighting over him? Would being bitten by a radioactive spider actually give you superpowers, or just make you really sick? And why does nobody ever bring up the time you punched a woman in the face by accident and killed her? So many questions. The query that the brainiacs over on Ask Science Fiction decided to deign with their intellect, however, was a little more prosaic - but no less fascinating. Well, maybe slightly less fascinating than the last of ours, anyway.

One of the wall crawler's most spider-like abilities is, well, being able to crawl up walls. Presumably that's something to do with his human physiology being altered by that arachnid chomping down on his hand, but if that's the case, how would he still be able to do that when he wears gloves and boots? Surely then the spider-like tiny hairs that presumably let him "stick" to surfaces would be blocked? Never fear, for Reddit is here, explaining that he's actually able to manipulate the forces on surfaces, increasing the friction between said surface and his fingers so he sticks to them. All subconscious, of course. Somebody piped up to suggest that maybe it's a combination of that and the tiny hairs (which just poke through the gloves and boots), which is very diplomatic of them.
