4. Why Do People Still Fear Him?
This is a problem with another of Marvel's biggest success stories, too. Part of the X-Men's whole deal is that they're hated and feared by humanity, with their battles against evil mutants described by the media as battles for supremacy before they take over the world, and protesters frequently at the gates of the Xavier school. All because of their weird and wonderful abilities and appearances.
Except, well, the Marvel Universe is full of people with weird and wonderful abilities and appearances.
The unpopularity is supposed to be part of Spider-Man's character, too, with J Jonah Jameson leading the vocal majority who think the hero's in fact a menace through his Daily Bugle newspaper. Which, like, makes absolutely no sense.
Spider-Man is on record as being pals with plenty of the heroes people respect Captain America, the Fantastic Four has been part of the Avengers on multiple occasions, and has saved both New York and the world countless times. Then again, there are people who hate Anne Hathaway for apparently no reason, so...
