10 Problems With Marvel's Secret Wars Nobody Wants To Admit

4. Even Then, It's Totally Impenetrable

And even if you do all that, there's no indication that you'll have a clue what's going on. Partly that's down to the book not giving much away all at once; partly it's because Secret Wars is utterly impenetrable. Not every title needs to adhere to Stan Lee's famous €œevery comic could be somebody's first€ edict, but c'mon. Give people a chance. Say you really enjoyed Age Of Ultron, but you've never thought to pick up an Avengers comic before. Braving the local shop for the first time, having perhaps heard a little about this cool Secret Wars book, you buy the first issue only to find that absolutely nothing makes sense, and you have no idea what's going on, and nobody's helping you. Secret Wars has been produced as a completely inside baseball work that appeals solely to existing comic book fans, and ones with deep pockets at that. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but when comics sales are constantly shrinking and relying on the current audience is clearly not working, at least give newbies a chance will you.
