Those hoping for a 'real' end to the adventures of Punisher MAX wouldn't have too long to wait though. Picking up where Garth Ennis and a handful of others left off in his wake, Jason Aaron and, fittingly, Steve Dillon finally killed off this iteration of the Punisher in the aptly named R.I.P.

These final few issues come following a series of connected stories which put old Castle through the ringer, pitting him against (the MAX version of) Elektra, Bullseye, the Kingpin... and, uh, some Amish guy with a horse and cart.

Although the Punisher dispatches them all in suitably horrible style, his final fight is one too many, and old man Frank finally keels over - and in a universe without miraculous resurrections, no less.
