7. Crossover Appeal
Love it or hate it, the Era of Excess is responsible for characters from other media adaptations making their way into comics. When it works well, it's a great idea. New fans can discover the character at the same time as the comicshop cowboys (which drastically cuts down on the infamous fanboy snobbery) and longtime fans get some new elements added to their beloved continuity; everybody wins. Harley Quinn, Renee Montoya, the X-Men's Morph... all 90s cartoon characters that found a home and lots of love in the panels of comics. And who couldn't love Agent Phil Coulson from the recent Marvel movies?
