What initially started out as a bit of a prank eventually evolved into Marvels reintroduction of a vastly underrated and under-appreciated character in Miguel OHara, aka, Spider-Man 2099. In late 2012 before the identity of the superior Spider-Man had been officially revealed, Dan Slott toyed with Twitter followers by asking one of his artists on Twitter about OHaras physical characteristics. The tweet was treated as a private message that was accidentally posted on the main site before being quickly deleted. When Otto Octavius was revealed as the Superior Spider-Man shortly thereafter, it became clear that the OHara tweet was just some friendly game-playing courtesy of Slott. Still, fans responded positively to the idea that OHara might be returning to the mainstream Spider-Man universe. At a comic book convention last year, fans raucously cheered when Slott confirmed that Spider-Man 2099 would return for a special arc in Superior Spider-Man #17-19. Outside of that one arc, Miguel was a mostly tertiary character in Superior. But it was announced last month that original 2099 writer Peter David was coming back to pen a brand new series about the character living in the modern world. Now a whole new generation of fans will discover OHara.
