10 Reasons Being A Comic Book Fan Is Bad For Your Health

1. It Alters Your Perception Of The World

In comic books everything is connected - the villain's schemes and often origins are linked to the hero - but in the real world this isn€™t the case. Things just happen, without correlation or causation. Avidly loving comic books colours people€™s judgement, making them see connections where there are none, and giving them a desire to see miracles that simply do not exist. One of the biggest criticisms of comics is that the villain mirrors the hero; the Joker is psychotically funny while Batman is stern and serious; the Flash battles the Reverse Flash; and the young Spider-Man battles the older Green Goblin. This duality, with a good versus evil narrative, makes it hard for young comic book fans to integrate into society, and it makes it even harder if you have grown up immersing yourself in the duplicitous world of comic books. This isn€™t to say that comic book fans expect Spider-Man to swing past their window, or that they think the news will show the latest crime fighting escapades of the Justice League or The Avengers. It just means that the minds of comic book fans want to see a series of connected dots when this is not the case. This isn€™t a serious mental impediment, it just means that comic book fans see an added layer of reality, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Perhaps this different viewpoint is what makes comic book fans so unique. What did you think? Did we miss any out? Let us know in the comments section below.
