7. Great Balance Of Spider-Man And Peter Parker

The key to any great Spider-Man story is finding the right balance of Peter and Spider-Man. While watching Spider-Man swing through the streets of New York and taking on super-villains is always exciting to read, watching Peter Parker struggle to juggle his two different lives and the impact that has on his relationships is often the driving force of many great Spider-Man stories. This is what made Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films so fantastic and timeless as Peter's struggles feel so incredibly real.

Throughout the Ultimate run of Spider-Man Peter has to navigate saving the world alongside his time at school and spending time with friends and family. Every time Peter almost gets caught in his suit by Aunt May, or when people start to question why Peter keeps disappearing, the tension rises, and you wonder if it's finally going to blow up in Peter's face.

Best of all though is the handling of Spider-Man's secret identity. I wont divulge any spoilers but it has never been handled so realistically. Characters do figure it out with all the clues while others aren't so clever. When characters do figure certain things out it's always explored in interesting ways and really keeps you guessing from page to page.

Essentially, Peter's actions as Spider-Man have real consequence.
