Gotham City
DC Comics

Gotham City has an interesting supernatural history. Centuries ago, an evil warlock was buried below what would become the central island of Gotham City. His evil was believed to poison the soil, permanently darkening the land itself. He would later arise in more recent times and take the name of Doctor Gotham. Under this guise, the rogue claimed that he “fathered” the modern Gotham and battled the supernatural hero team Shadowpact.

One theory about the disappearance of the native Miagani people is that they were wiped out by a supernatural shaman named Blackfire. One day, the shaman appeared in the lands of the Miagani, claiming to be a holy messenger, but he quickly proved to be a tyrant who took over the tribe and killed the chieftain. Eventually, the Miagani revolted and trapped Blackfire in a cave, with a totem outside detailing the evil within. Some say that the shaman caused a blight on the land, and the tribe was forced to move and they were wiped out by a rival tribe. Others say Blackfire escaped and wiped the Miagani from the face of the Earth.

In the 17th Century, Dutch colonists arrived in the area and established two colonies; one coastal and one farther inland. People from the inland colony encountered a cave with a totem that they could not read and opened it. When their brothers from the coastal colony came to check on their inland neighbouts, they found the colony completely empty.
