10 Secrets Of Gotham City You Didn’t Know About

3. The Neighborhoods Of Gotham

Gotham City
DC Comics

Like most large American cities, Gotham City is really a collection of many neighborhoods, with each neighborhood having its own particular style, landmarks, and personality.

One of the most well-known and notorious neighborhoods is its East End. That area is the home of “Crime Alley”, the street where Thomas and Martha Wayne were murdered in front of their young son, Bruce. Then it was called Park Row and was a very affluent neighborhood and the home of the now-closed Monarch Theater, where the Waynes were seeing “The Mask of Zorro” that night. Selina Kyle, the sometimes hero Catwoman, protects the East End and Dr. Leslie Thompkins also runs a free clinic in the area.

Burnside is near Gotham’s Chinatown and was the home of Barbara Gordon for a brief period. Gordon, along with Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown - known collectively as the Batgirls - nowadays live in a loft in the Hills neighborhood near the Gotham Docks.

Then there's the Narrows, which is an especially rundown area of Gotham that has Arkham Asylum as its most important, or possibly notorious, distinguishing feature.

Elsewhere, the Gotham City Police Headquarters is built in the lower East Side neighborhood and is a classic example of the Pickney architectural style. Commissioner James Gordon has an apartment in the Tri-Corner area in the far south of the city, whereas Bristol Township is the locale just outside of Gotham where Wayne Manor exists.
