3. 5G And The Firing Of Dan DiDio

5G was planned to be the fifth generation of DC's superheroes, and it was to center around a replacement Batman that would be different from Bruce Wayne. The plan was to introduce Luke Fox, the son of Lucius Fox, was to become the new Bat under the tutelage of a much older Bruce Wayne.

DC was going to shake up its universe once more, and this time, it would be bigger and crazier than any relaunch that came before it. Jonathan Kent was set to replace his old man to become the new Superman, Princess Diana would stop being Wonder Woman in lieu of someone else, and the list goes on.

DC ramped up marketing and promotions for the event, and just as it was ramping up, it all came crashing down. DC suddenly fired Dan DiDio as its publisher, and the entire 5G event seemingly went with him, though DC and Warner Bros. were tight-lipped as to why he was fired.

For the casual observer, it was all happening suddenly and with no explanation, but some details have emerged. It was said that DiDio was fired for "fostering a poor working environment," and intense micro-management led to a number of executives and editors resigning as a result.

There has been some indication that DC will go forward with some elements of 5G, but the firing and the complete change of plans have yet to be explained. It seems as if there will never be an explanation or justification for these actions, which begs the question, what is DC hiding or covering up?
