10 Shockingly Dark Origins Of Comic Book Heroes

5. Rocket Racoon

Rocket Raccoon
Marvel Comics

Rocket Raccoon is a genetically engineered and educated creation of the robots of Halfworld to care for the mentally challenged inmates known as the “Loonies.” After freeing his world, Rocket began traveling in space but became a prisoner of the Kree. They teamed him with Peter Quill, Groot, and others as a strike team against the Phalanx. After many battles and the aid of many cosmic-powered beings, the Phalanx was defeated.

Quill, as Star-Lord, Rocket, Groot, and others formed the Guardians of the Galaxy. They often fought Thanos and followed him to Earth where he used a Cosmic Cube to transport them to the Cancerverse. There, they found the Elders of the Universe, also marooned by the Mad Titan, and made a deal to defeat Thanos with their help. Tony Stark realized it wasn’t the Cosmic Cube, and Titan was sent to the Elders for punishment and Stark joined the Guardians.

The process that made Rocket was failing, and he returned to Halfworld alone instead of burdening his friends. Moondragon came to find him when the Guardians were captured by the Universal Church of Truth, led by Quill’s father, J’Son. Using his engineering skills, Rocket took control of J’Son’s flagship and freed his team. They all stood by him through the multiple surgeries needed to save his life.
