4. The Crow

Rocket Raccoon
Caliber Comics

Based on a Native American legend, a crow can bring people who have been murdered back from the dead to seek justice against their killers. The resurrected individuals gain a number of abilities including strength, speed, agility, and reflexes. They also lack the ability to feel pain and can heal from injuries in a matter of minutes. The crow acts as a guide and the deceased see through the bird’s eyes.

The first modern Crow was Eric. He and his fiancee Shelly were returning from a romantic getaway when their car broke down. A car full of gang members happened upon them and attacked. They shot Eric in the head, paralyzing him. He was forced to watch while they raped and killed Shelly. Eric finally died hours later at the hospital. A year later, the Crow resurrected Eric and he exacted revenge upon their attackers.

There have been a number of souls that the crow has returned to the land of the living to seek vengeance for their murders. These include a Native American farmer, an inmate at a Nazi concentration camp, a 1930s make-up artist, a gay man in the 1980s, and a young girl who was murdered by a serial killer, to name but a few.
