10 Sickest "Jokes" The Joker Ever Pulled

8. Murdered Jason Todd - Death In The Family

Batman Joker War
DC Comics

Perhaps the Joker's greatest work of physical comedy. Granted, beating a child to death with a crowbar might not to be everyone's tastes, but enough appreciated the gag enough to vote for it.

Like Alan Moore's The Killing Joke, A Death in the Family was a watershed moment for the Joker, and something which would irrevocably change readers' relationship with the character.

Kidnapping the second Robin - Jason Todd - Joker bludgeoned him about the head repeatedly with a crowbar, then left him for dead - alongside his alleged long-lost mother) next to a ticking time bomb. Which then exploded, killing the Boy Wonder. Todd would later be resurrected, but the damage was done, and this one act of murder still resonates today.

Like the hack he is at heart, the Joker would repeatedly return to his most famous joke (most recently in Black Label's Three Jokers), but the first time remains the most effective. After that, you're just beating a dead horse. Or Robin, as it were.
