10 Sickest "Jokes" The Joker Ever Pulled

6. Face/Off - Death Of The Family

Batman Joker War
DC Comics

Like the physical comedy greats, the Joker certainly isn't afraid of a little pain if it's in service of a good gag. By far his most grisly self-inflicted wound came about when he let Dollmaker cut off his actual face. And you thought Jackass was hard to watch.

Shortly after this act of self-mutilation, the Joker disappeared, vanishing from Gotham completely. He resurfaced in Scott Snyder's Death of the Family storyline, stealing his face back from the GCPD and wearing it strapped to its head like some sort of awful mask.

He then set about on one of his greatest ever acts of revenge against the Dark Knight - kidnapping the Bat-family and tormenting their mentor with the threat of Joker-izing them.

The gag was a relatively short-lived one (the Joker's face was back to 'normal' in time for Snyder's Endgame), but it serves as a powerful reminder as to how far the Joker is prepared to go in pursuit of a good joke.
