10 Spider-Man Moments That Shocked The World

4. The Lizard Ate His Kid

The Lizard has been one of the saddest and most tragic characters Spider-Man has ever tangled with. Dr. Curt Connors only transformed into the deadly villain after an experiment meant to restore his lost arm resulted in the transformation, but that's not the only tragic aspect of his tale.

One of the only things that kept Kurt grounded was his little boy Billy, as well as his wife Martha. Knowing they were around kept Curt in his human form for most of the time, but occasional episodes transformed him into a giant reptilian monster every so often.

Even in this form, he still maintained a connection to his family... until he didn't. In what has to be the worst event in Dr. Curtis Connors' life outside of losing his arm and becoming a supervillainous anthropomorphic crocodile, the guy went and ate his kid.

It was always something that could never happen, but then, during the events of The Gauntlet, the Lizard is left in an alley with Billy whom he quickly ate. This action destroyed Curt's personality for a while, but he was pretty much destroyed from that point forward. Even with the eventual return of the previously eaten boy, Connors has never been the man he was so many years ago.
