10 Strangest Jack Kirby Creations

9. Mole Man

Mole Man Mole Man is the ugly duckling of the Marvel universe. That is, if the ugly duckling became a super villain instead of a beautiful swan. He first appears in Fantastic Four #1 from 1961. Also known as Harvey Elder, Mole Man is extremely smart, but is ultimately shunned from society for being ugly and looking like a character from Snow White. He has crazy theories about the earth being hollow, and believes that whatever civilization that lies beneath the earth€™s crust must be far more accepting than those above it. After much struggling, Mole Man eventually finds a passage into his hollow earth, leading to a place called Subterranea, where he becomes the ruler of the land and monsters that he finds there. Unfortunately, however, whilst in Subterranea, Mole Man suffers an accident that hinders his eyesight, making him extremely sensitive to light, as if the vermin like appearance wasn't enough to complete the mole metaphor. In order to make up for his vision, he is forced to wear special glasses, which we can only assume are the ones you receive after getting your eyes dilated at the optometrist.
