10 Stupid Arguments About Batman That Don't Make Sense
4. He Can Only Be Dark And Brooding
In most of his adaptations to other media, Batman is a singularly dour and dark figure. In Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy of films, the principal outlook is right there in the title. Getting King Goth Tim Burton to helm the earlier films probably didn't help that case much, either.
It's an attitude that persists to this day, in minds of both fans and creators. Why is Batman so serious? Well... he's not. Not all the time. In fact Batman has proven himself to be one of the most malleable, experimental characters in comics. Creators can do just about anything with him. That's why the Christian Bale angst-ridden Caped Crusader is as legitimate as the dancing, campy Adam West Batman from the sixties.
Even everybody's favourite Batman - the one in the nineties Animated Series - isn't as po-faced as all that. There's plenty of angst and pathos in that show (especially when it was supposedly for kids), but Batman smiled a lot. He cracked wise. Batman does that sometimes. And he should!
