8. The Sandman's Endless
DC ComicsAlthough not technically superheroes, unlike a lot of DC's mature readers Vertigo titles The Sandman was actually set in the same continuity as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and all those guys. They just didn't make a whole lot of appearances, because the focus was less on superheroic action and more on the mystical comings and goings of The Endless, a dysfunctional "family" of eponymous deities who handled all Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Despair, Desire and Delirium (yeah, we're not sure about the last one either) in the word. Despite how they looked, they did not live in a Hot Topic but a different plane of existence to everybody else. They're also, technically, more powerful even than gods; so, if they actually suited up and did the superhero thing from time to time, they might actually top this list. But they don't, so they can't, even though Dream - also known as The Sandman - has frequently nicked the attire of an old, unused DC character who used to take down criminals by knocking them out with a gas gun. As for those powers...well, we're not quite sure. Dream has powers of the realm of sleep, controlling what people think of when they nod off, and Death leads the souls of the recently deceased into whatever afterlife they've been selected for, but the others are a little more muddy and ill-defined. Destruction's a huge ginger dude, who can mess stuff up, and all of them have some degree of control over the lives and surroundings of humanity. That's what gods do, pretty much.
