2. Thor, Loki And Other Asgardians
Marvel ComicsOf course, the most popular immortals in all of comic books - thanks to some star turns in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - are Thor, Loki, Odin, and the rest of those old-timey-talking bearded types that hang around in Asgard, drink mead and hit things with hammers. Inspired by Norse mythology - we hasten to add very, very loosely - the denizens of Asgard may seem like superheroes to us mere mortals, especially when they hang around with the likes of the Avengers, but they're totally gods. Unlike some of the others on our list, they don't always have the ability to make or remake reality in the way that a capital-g God does. Odin himself can't just go around willy nilly creating life or casting plagues or whatever, and they all do have their special abilities; they're pretty much immortal and all, besides all the magical stuff they can cast and rain down great vengeance and furious anger upon their enemies. The Asgardian characters are living, breathing mythological figures; they're Norse gods made reality. That's not to downplay their powers at all. Thor can do some pretty nifty things with thunder, and Lady Sif and the other Asgardian warriors have increased strength, agility and durability, plus they can easily skip between their god-like realm and Earth. It's Loki you want to look out for, though, as his powers of manipulation begin to stretch beyond just playing the devil on the shoulder of men. Besides the usual god-like abilities, he's resistant to magic and able to use his to great effect. Loki can read minds, project himself across dimensions even when incapacitated, can shapeshift, and recently found he could cheat death by leaping into a new body, rewriting history as he does so. Now we see why you lot are always writing fan fiction about him...
