10 Superheroes Who Broke Bad

Here he is, the poster boy for heroes gone bad. The universe's greatest Green Lantern who turned into their destroyer.

After Superman died fighting Doomsday, a bunch of other heroes tried to pick up his slack. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, some of Superman's rogues gallery was able to slip through the cracks.

One such villain was the alien warlord Mongul. In his case "slip through the cracks" meant destroying the entirety of Coast City and its seven million inhabitants. Coast City was where Green Lantern Hal Jordan kept all his stuff and also friends and loved ones, so he wasn't too pleased.

After Mongul was defeated, Hal began to use his ring to recreate Coast City as he remembered it, even talking to constructs of his dead parents. The Guardians who gave him the ring had strict rules against using it for personal gain though and Hal was summoned to Oa for disciplinary action.

The Guardians lack of gratitude for all he had done caused Hal to be consumed by rage. He absorbed the power of the Green Lantern's central battery and proceeded to kill Sinestro, Kilowog and most of the Guardians, plus the thousands of Green Lanterns suddenly depowered in the middle of space. As Parallax, he would then go on to team up with Extant in Zero Hour to try and remake the universe in his image. He was only stopped when he ran out of power.

Hal would eventually redeem himself though, sacrificing his life to reignite the Sun after the alien Sun-Eater caused it to go out.
