10 Surprisingly Good Licensed Comic Books

3. Batman/Predator

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight 1280 x720
DC Comics/Dark Horse Comics

There once was a man who said, "chocolate is good. Biscuits are good. I wonder what would happen if I put the two together?". This kind of superficial thinking led the folks at DC and Dark Horse Comics to add two different types of awesome together and come up with something extraordinary.

The open-ended nature of both the Batman and Predator franchises meant that the two would fit together almost seamlessly.

Batman, for his part, is a man who regularly defends his city and the world from all manner of threats, be they human, supernatural, or from beyond the stars. The Predator is a species of hunters who travels the universe, testing themselves against the most dangerous prey in existence.

When you add in legendary creators like Dave Gibbons and the Kubert brothers, you have a recipe for a surefire hit. While Batman Versus Predator was a co-produced mini-series between DC and Dark Horse, the story could have appeared in any of the monthly Batman titles, and most fans would not have batted an eyelid.

Really, the only negative that came from it was a series of sequels of ever-decreasing quality.
