10 Terrible Comic Book Covers DC Want You To Forget
8. Superman #75
Superman #75 is one of the best-selling single-issue comic books of all time, which begs the question: why is it on this list? The problems that come from the issue's cover also stems from its existence as a gimmick.
Killing off Superman was always going to be a temporary thing, but DC marketed the storyline like it was bursting out a fire-sale. Millions of speculative collectors bought copies of these books with the hope they would be worth something someday, but it never happened.
The speculation caused the market to crash and comic sales suffered for years as a result. When you get to the cover, the problem wasn't the image of Superman's cape blowing in the wind on some rebar; that was a beautiful and evocative image.
The problem had to do with the fact that DC bagged the book in an opaque black (or white) polybag, which completely obscured the image. DC's crime with this book wasn't the drawing on the cover, it's that the cover was covered up!
