10 Terrifying Comics About Real Life Crimes

9. My Friend Dahmer By John "Derf" Backderf

My Friend Dahmer
Abrams Books

Jeffrey Dahmer is a serial killer that inspires complete fear, not only did he murder several but he went so far as to eat his victims too, crossing the line into cannibalism, something that not even the likes of the Zodiac killer did.

My Friend Dahmer doesn't go into how The Milwaukee Monster tracked down his victims or even how he cooked and prepared the bodies he ate. Instead, "Derf" tells us the story of his friendship with the future killer, showing him from the sprightly age of twelve all the way up to his first victim.

The comic doesn't defend Dahmer in anyway, but it does paint him as more of a human being than what tabloids would tell you about him.

Through Backderf's quite quirky artwork, you see the origins of a long-suffering soul whose largely unnoticed spiralling reached the point beyond redemption. In many ways, seeing this more realistic account of the killer is all the more sobering, as he appears to have been written off by many as merely eccentric for years, until they discovered his dark secrets.
