10 Things DC Comics Wants You To Forget About Bane

2. He And Batman Share A Wife

Bane's love for Scandal Savage was very, very different from the first woman he fell in love with. That dubious honour went to Talia al Ghul, the daughter of Batman's eternal (and immortal) nemesis Ra's al Ghul. Following his shameful defeat at the end of Knightfall Bane was shipped off to Blackgate prison, where he recovers from his addiction to Venom and consequently escapes. After unexpectedly teaming up with the Caped Crusader to take down a drug smuggling ring he leaves the country to search for his father, crossing paths with the League of Assassins on the way. In battle Bane impresses Ra's so much that the villain decides to offer him his daughter's hand in marriage. Once the engagement is confirmed Ra's takes Bane along as his right-hand man for his next major attack on Gotham City, unleashing a plague in the Legacy storyline which culminated in Batman finally getting a rematch against the man who once crippled him. In one-on-one combat the Dark Knight easily bests Bane, which displeases Ra's so much that he deems the unlucky luchador as "unworthy" of marrying his daughter and eventually taking control of the League of Assassins, breaking off the engagement before they can seal the deal. Which is probably for the best, because that would put Bane and Batman in a weird sorta polyamorous relationship with Talia. The only "champion" previously deemed worthy of marrying Talia and giving her children had been Bruce Wayne, who Ra's begrudgingly accepted as being the most likely to replace him. Of course that didn't work out - because superheroes shacking up with their enemies rarely does - which is just as well. Bane as stepdad to Damian Wayne is something that deserves to remain a thing of fan fiction. Weird, weird fan fiction.
