10 Things DC Comics Wants You To Forget About Robin

2. Batman Was Robin Once

We're still running hot and cold on that new Gotham TV show that's soon to debut on Fox. The idea of a Batman prequel, chronicling what the city's police department were up to prior to them shifting most of their workload onto the shoulders of a mentally deranged billionaire, is kinda intriguing. Seeing how Jim Gordon climbed through the ranks to the position of Commissioner - and grew that sweet moustache - is certainly something we'd like to see more of, after enjoying the little tease of it in Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli's iconic Year One comic book miniseries. What we're less enthused about is how big a part Bruce Wayne seems to be playing in the series. Obviously he's going to be in it a bit, since it's a Batman show and all, but how much do you really want to see of the Dark Knight as a whiny, annoying sprog? Wouldn't that ruin the character a little? Where, there is a precedent for it, in the form of the 2000 storyline Sins Of Youth. This Young Justice crossover event saw old, obscure character (soon getting a revival, actually) Klarion The Witch Boy casting a spell that made all of the universe's adults become kids, and kids into adults. Which meant that Bruce Wayne got turned into a kid, and Tim Drake an adult. Which meant that, for a little while anyway, Bruce Wayne was Robin. That's a rather peculiar turn of events. The actual build up to this big change is too complicated/stupid for us to go into here, but rest assured it made for some strange moments, as Bruce still asserted dominance over his ward and yet was technically his sidekick. It all got ironed out rather sharpish but we still got treated to one issue of Batboy and Robin which, so far as we can tell, has never been collected or republished.
