10 Things DC Wants You To Forget About The Penguin

7. He Went Into Stocks

Don't take those neck braces off just yet because now we're moving on to an even more devious crime, stock market manipulation.

In the graphic novel Penguin Triumphant, Oswald Cobblepot decided that crime was no longer a lucrative career and went into business instead. Using a friend's company as a legitimate front, Penguin turned his criminal mind to the stock market and began manipulating it to his advantage.

It's a turn that worried Bruce Wayne as he realised that Penguin is far smarter than him when he isn't fixated on Batman. For once, the Dark Knight was a step behind his opponent as he desperately searched for a way to bring down Cobblepot's crooked business until... well until he realised how Penguin was manipulating stocks and brought him in.

Penguin Triumphant is about as exciting a story as you'd expect from a book about Batman and the Penguin arguing over stock prices. It's admirable that it attempt to move away from traditional superhero tales, but the problem is that it doesn't find anything interesting to replace them with.

A lot of the story's problems probably come down to the fact that it was rushed into production to coincide with the release of Batman Returns.

I was just a mild-mannered NCTJ accredited journalist until one day I found out the truth... that I could share my nerdy ramblings with people on the internet! It's just like mumbling to myself on the train, but without all the strange looks.
