If you're familiar with the television series of The Incredible Hulk which ran from 1978 to 1982 - the one starring Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno as the two different personalities of the titular character - you will remember that the name of Bruce Banner was changed to David Banner for the show. You probably didn't realise why, however. The show's executive producer Kenneth Johnson has tried to have people believe that the reason for the change was because alliterative names like Bruce Banner weren't realistic enough (really, Kenneth?), but Stan Lee himself has revealed that the real reason behind the change was that Johnson and other Hollywood executives believed that the name Bruce seemed too gay. Lou Ferrigno has since confirmed Lee's version of events and has stated that both he and Lee thought the notion was ridiculous, but the name change went ahead anyway.
