10 Things You Didn't Know About Loki

8. His First "Modern Day" Comic Has Sold For $30,000

Loki's first appearance in the guise that comic book fans know him as now was in 1962's Journey Into Mystery #85. Having been created by Stan Lee and Larry Lieber, he was drawn by Jack Kirby and was introduced as his adopted brother Thor's sworn enemy - challenging the God of Thunder to go up against him to see whose power was greatest. He had previously been imprisoned by Odin and would only be freed when someone shed a tear for him. Having manufactured a situation in which Heimdall did so, he was let loose. The comic was also the first appearance of Asgard itself and, as a result, is very valuable. A mint condition copy has recently sold for $30,000 and even a terrible copy - assuming it is complete - will sell for $50.
