10. He Was The First Real Superhero To Be Based On A God
These days, there are a number of comic book superheroes (and indeed villains) based on gods from mythology. Hercules and Ares immediately stand out from Marvel alone and, while other characters like Zeus first appeared before Thor on panel, they were hardly portrayed as the superhero archetype. Thor was the very first to be presented as someone who mingled with and joined forces with the heroes of Earth and helped people in need for the simple reason that he felt it was his duty. A year after his first appearance - which was in 1962 - he was written as a founding member of the superhero team the Avengers, which was quite unprecedented at the time.
