10 Things Everyone Always Gets Wrong About Batman

6. He Can Never Be Happy

Batman is a character steeped in tragedy, but that doesn't mean he isn't entitled to a happy ending.

The character, much like his other DC and Marvel counterparts, has endured dark periods throughout his storied bibliography. Love interests have been removed, ret-conned or - even worse - refrigerated from top to bottom. Sidekicks have come and gone, death is a consistent presence, and it's often meant that the character hasn't been allowed to grow; the status-quo, comfortable though it may be, reverts to type.

And yet, Batman is not a wholly miserable character. He's allowed to have fun, and he can be a part of a family unit too. Showcasing those elements doesn't make him any less of the character Bill Finger conceptualised in the forties, and as writer Tom King is showing currently, the Dark Knight needn't be so dark; you can still tell emotional, character-driven stories with a wedding on the horizon.
