10 Things Everyone Always Gets Wrong About Captain America

5. He Can't Lift Thor's Hammer

Remember that scene in the beginning of Avengers: Age of Ultron when everyone was sitting around trying to lift Thor's hammer? When it came time for Steve Rogers to give it a go, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that it would immediately lift off the table, but all it did was stir about a millimeter or two.

There was some movement, but he didn't lift it. Some have theorized that he felt it move and decided not to pick it up so he wouldn't embarrass Thor, but there's no way of knowing for sure. For whatever reason, Captain America in the MCU can't wield Mjolnir.

Over in the comics, it's far less ambiguous. Captain America is absolutely worthy (most of the time) to wield Thor's hammer, and he's done so on multiple occasions. After all... if any Avenger other than Thor is worthy, who else but Captain America?

There have been a few situations where Rogers has wielded Thor's hammer, but never for very long. After his shield was shattered in The Mighty Thor #390, he looked over to see the hammer available for his use. He picked it up without any struggle or effort and wielded it in much the same way as Thor. Other than that instance, he lifted it during Fear Itself, Secret Empire, and What If? Age of Apocalypse.
