10 Things Everyone Always Gets Wrong About Green Lantern
2. Kyle Rayner Was The Only GL With A Traumatic Love Life
In 1999, Gail Simone coined the term "women in refrigerators" to describe the death of Alex DeWitt at the hands of Major Force from an Green Lantern Vol. 3 #54 from 1994. DeWitt's death seemed to exemplify the medium's bizarre tendency to terrorise female comic book characters, and ever since, Kyle Rayner has been considered the only Green Lantern to have a traumatising love life. The truth, however, is much worse.
Hal Jordan's primary love interest, Carol Ferris, has been a constant flux of love and hate with her position as a Star Sapphire. Similarly, Jillian Pearlman, a fellow pilot, would become a Star Sapphire and battle with Hal on numerous occasions. Then there's Arisia Rrab, an alien girl who was a fourteen year old in an eighteen year old's body that Hal dated for a time until he broke it off (yes, it's about as creepy as it sounds).
Guy Gardner's first love, Kari Limbo, would actually become engaged to Hal Jordan while Guy was presumed dead. That is until she was killed in the decimation of Coast City. Guy Gardner would also have an on-and-off against relationship with fellow Justice League International member Ice, until her death at the hands of Overmaster. John Stewart would marry Katma Tui, a Green Lantern from Korugar, until she was killed by a Star Sapphire to prove a point to Hal Jordan.
Outside of Alex, Kyle Rayner has also dated Jade, the Green Lantern daughter of Alan Scott and Thorn, but she would die during a one-shot during the Infinite Crisis event.
