10 Things Everyone Always Gets Wrong About Wonder Woman

1. That She's Boring

DC ComicsDC ComicsHonestly, can you tell us with a straight face after you read all of that that Wonder Woman is a boring character? Since all of that evidence has been freely available to people who have been dismissing the character for years, we're going to guess that perhaps some of you are. We also hope by this point that we're willing to argue with you on this point, and to hopefully turn you around on your frankly incorrect opinions. Wonder Woman is an awesomely powerful feminist demigod liberal icon who fights monsters, supervillains and heroes alike, and always come out on top. She is the best, quite frankly. If you need more proof, then there's a tonne of amazing storylines involving the character. There's the concluding New 52 run of Azzarello and Chiang; The Hiketeia, where she's tricked into being honor-bound to eternally protect a young woman Batman's after (hence the head stomping); the reasonably insane seventies storyline A Golden Thread, where she learns kung fu; and basically all of George PĂ©rez's historic run on the book, which really introduced all of the Greek mythology stuff as an intrinsic part of the character and gives the whole thing a really epic scale. Of course no great superhero story can exist without a great superhero at the heart of it. And whatever flavour of Wonder Woman you prefer, you're going to get that: she's a fierce warrior, she's a loyal team member in the Justice League, she's a fighter for social justice in pretty much every incarnation, she's a monster hunter, she's somebody trying to get her head around how screwy the politics of us puny humans. It might seem like she doesn't have a consistent personality or whatever, but she's fluctuated just as much as her fellow DC superheroes - Batman '66 isn't all that similar to the Dark Knight Returns, is he - and she's never boring, either. Wonder Woman deserves to be remembered as more than just Lynda Carter in a kid's pubescent fantasies, or as Superman's girlfriend in, er, a kid's pubescent fantasies from another era. She's easily as awesome as Batman, Superman, any of the Avengers, or any other superheroes you fancy throwing our way. Now don't you forget it.
