In the aftermath of the cancellation of the Superman’s Girlfriend series, the number of times that Lois Lane was seen depended on her presence within the Superman focused titles. This had then limited Lois's role in providing drama in story plots.

Much of which would be in part due to the newly hired Lana Lang - who would be posed as Lois's romantic rival for both Superman and Clark Kent.

The Superman writers would often pit these women against one another by having them frequently sabotage each other's careers. The feud between them would only grow stronger when Lois dates Superman, and Lana begins to date Clark.

Even though Clark was in the wrong for technically two-timing both Lois and Lana, they nevertheless fixate their hate on each other, and they even come to blows at one point.

Obviously this an unfavorable representation of female characters as hysterical beings that are entirely motivated by romance. The most damaging aspect of this portrayal, though, has to be the lack of sisterhood between Lois and Lana, who should’ve been supporting one another in a very male-dominated career environment.
