10 Things Marvel Wants You To Forget About Guardians Of The Galaxy
4. Peter Quill's Ship Was Sexy
In Guardians Of The Galaxy Peter Quill pilots the Milano, a ravager ship named after the star of Who's The Boss and Charmed, and it's the place he takes back the poor unfortunate females of the universe that he manages to bring under the influence of his pelvic sorcery. It's a pretty neat ship, admittedly, with a cool look and weapons, but the comic book Star-Lord had an event greater vessel under his command. With a less cool name, admittedly, but still. The comic Peter Quill piloted a ship called, er, Ship, which was sentient and could shapeshift. In the source material Star-Lord is actually a legit title, too, not a code name he gives himself. But we'll get into that soon enough. We've got enough on our plate trying to explain Ship. Star-Lord shares a psychic link with his star-faring vehicle, which is not so much a vessel as it is a sapient energy form - and a female, for the record. Which we know because every so often Ship would touch down on a planet with her "pilot" and turned into humanoid form. A humanoid form which was shapely and usually topless, because the character starred in one of Marvel's few "mature" readers titles of the time. Ship has pretty much all the usual accoutrement you'd expect of a space vessel, with lasers and shields and the like. She can also many any kind of food or drink, can restore herself even if completely destroyed, and latches onto her partners with a maternal instinct. Usually, anyway - in Quill's case, she actually fell in love with her pilot, and frequently told him that, whether she was in her sexy person form or not. Unsurprisingly he usually turned her down, and she's not been seen recently. Don't expect her to be reintroduced any time soon, either.
