10 Things Marvel Wants You To Forget About Wolverine

10. Twice He€™s Been An Aussie

Jackman, who had previously made a name for himself in stage musicals and small movie bit parts, seemed like an odd choice for Wolverine when he was cast in Bryan Singer€™s original X-Men film way back in (ready to feel old?) 2000. Which is probably why they€™d originally cast Dougray Scott in the role, only for him to get called away elsewhere and miss the opportunity of a lifetime. Scotts loss was Jackman€™s gain, despite all of the reservations fans had - not least of all that he was an Aussie. And yet, using a superpower called "acting", he did a good job masking his natural accent with the gruff Canadian tones of Wolverine. That€™s not the first time an Australian€™s played the character, but previously the accent was front and centre: prior to the classic nineties X-Men cartoon there was a failed animated pilot called Pryde Of The X-Men, well Logan was portrayed as an Aussie with the full, stereotypical Crocodile Dundee accent on display. The pilot€™s okay - the animation by Japanese studio Toei is beautiful - but the inexplicably Aussie Wolverine was swiftly buried.
