10 Things Marvel Wants You To Forget About Doctor Strange

5. He Trapped Some Journalists In An Alternate World

Like all of Marvel's heroes, Doctor Strange battles with a deep personal flaw. For him, it is his own sense of arrogance from his time as a surgeon. Sometimes though, he's just a bit of an arse.

In Strange Tales #129, Doctor Strange was invited to a talk show to debate the existence of magic. However, he instead decided to use the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone, proving the existence of magic and satiating the insane hatred of journalists he apparently has.

Rather than appear himself, Strange sent them an artefact to play with. The journalists were naturally sceptical of it, but then it sucked them into an alternate dimension ruled by Tiboro, a monstrous sorcerer who was banished centuries ago and was just waiting for an opportunity to return and conquer all of Earth.

Then Doctor Strange saved them and promptly wiped their minds of the event ever happening. It was the kind of angry misanthropy that defined a lot of Steve Ditko's work, but allowing three people to nearly get murdered to prove a point is not exactly the kind of behaviour that makes for a great superhero.

I was just a mild-mannered NCTJ accredited journalist until one day I found out the truth... that I could share my nerdy ramblings with people on the internet! It's just like mumbling to myself on the train, but without all the strange looks.
