10 Things Marvel Wants You To Forget About The Hulk
4. How Much They Owe To The Seventies TV Show
The Incredible Hulk's cultural notoriety can mainly be put down to the seventies TV show he starred in. One of the earliest live action Marvel Comics adaptations, riffing on the then-popular Fugitive series, it followed a Dr David Banner who is always moving from town to town, inevitably Hulking out for some reason and drawing attention to himself.
It's really cheesy, and embarrassingly low-budget, but Marvel owe a lot to The Incredible Hulk series. Not only did it make the character much more well known beyond comics fans (original Hulk actor Lou Ferringo voices the character in the Avengers films to this day as a result), but it also introduced a lot of concepts then ported over to the comics.
Most popular among them is that infamous Bruce Banner line: “Don't make me angry. You won't like me when I'm angry.” Heck, that anger is the main thing that brings about The Hulk was from the TV show. Besides continuing to furnish Ferringo a steady paycheck though, you won't see Marvel admitting it.
