10 Things Marvel Wants You To Forget About Wolverine
9. He Was Once Beaten Up By Spock
Paramount Comics was a short-lived deal between Marvel and Paramount Studios who's only real accomplishment was publishing bonkers crossover between Star Trek and the X-Men.
The plot (which sadly does not involve Picard reconciling with his long lost brother Charles Xavier), involves the X-Men teaming up with the cast of the Original Series to stop psychic Gary Mitchel, who has been possessed by the mutant Proteus.
Now the obvious problem here is that, compared to heroes who can shoot lasers from their eyes, a bunch of guys in sweaters don't seem that tough. Something had to be done to prove the Enterprise crew's credentials. That something was to have Wolverine lunge at Spock in their first meeting, because nothing says hello like a stab to the face.
The "fight" doesn't even last a page, Marvel's greatest mutant is easily downed by a Vulcan nerve-pinch. It's hard to tell what's worse, how incompetent it makes Wolverine look or how bored Spock seems by having to put him in his place.
Things certainly don't get better for Wolverine from there. He spent most of the series getting constantly put down by Spock and spent the final battle sulking in a corner while everyone else overloaded Proteus with energy.
That's why you should never bring knife-hands to a phaser fight.
