10 Things Marvel Wants You To Forget About Wolverine
3. He Was Turned Into A Caveman
A lot of comics have touched upon Wolverine's savage nature, especially his tendency to fly into a berserker rage. Some of those comics are better than others.
In the 90's, Wolverine went through a conga line of bad times, starting with having his admantium ripped out by Magneto. After that, he began turning more savage and it was revealed that his mutation was causing him to devolve. The only reason he hadn't done so before was because his adamantium had been blocking the transformation.
Cable's evil son Genesis tried to stop the process by rebonding adamantium to Logan's skeleton. The prcedure went horribly wrong though and Wolverine was reduced to a neanderthal like creature... who also didn't have a nose for some reason.
What this actually meant seemed to vary from writer to writer and Wolverine could be anything from a barely sentient beast (who licked Cyclops right on the face), to a village idiot who was also the world's most proficient killer, to just Wolverine but even hairier. Regardless, the X-Men didn't even seem to care about it that much beyond making Logan wear a bandanna over his now deeply upsetting face.
Eventually, Apocalypse did his one good deed for the world and turned Wolverine into his newest Horseman of Death, undoing all this nonsense in the process.
